EXPRESSION OF OPINION

Dialog :1
Yuli: I think Rina’s answer to the question is not right. It should be ‘vinegar’.
Vivi: I think it is ‘vinegar’ too, not ‘wine’.

Dialog : 2
Yani: In my opinion, our volley ball team needs a new coach. Mr. Zulfan cannot handle too many teams himself.
Firda: I agree with you.
Rahmat: Our English should be more active, I suppose. Why don’t we meet three times a week?
Rully: I agree, but after the final exam. Now we are very busy preparing for it.

Opinions
An opinion is the way you feel or think about something. Our opinion about something or someone is based on our perspective. Whenever we give or express our opinion it is important to give reasoning or an example to support our opinion.

Expression of Giving Opinion and respond
Example :
       Anto : I like Harry Potter movies because the magic seems so real.
       Sita   : I don't agree with you Harry Potter movies are just over rated.
Another examples of Opinions:
- I reckon this must have happened.
- To be honest, I never thought that social media was so prevalent among teenagers.
- I believe bullying is totally unacceptable practice in our school.
- It is often argued that too much TV is not good for eyes.
- I am not convinced that majority of the people are not aware of this issue.
- I think Bandung is developing fast.

A. The Use of expression of giving opinion and respond
Opinions can be expressed in the ways given below:
Rounded Rectangle: 1. Personal Point of view
These expressions are used to show personal point of view.
E.g:
In my opinion ………
I think …………
Personally, I think ………
In my humble opinion ……
I would like to point out that ……….
From my point of view ……….

Rounded Rectangle: 2. General Point of View
     These expressions are used to show general point of view. General point of view creates a balance in writing and helps to avoid absolute statements.
E.g.:
Most people do not agree …….
Generally it is accepted ………
Some people say that …….
It is considered ……
Some people believe …….
 















Did you know ? You can agree or disagree as long as you have reason for your opinion.

These are some of the expressions used to express agreement with an opinion.

These are the expressions used to express disagreement with an opinion.
I am sorry, I don't agree with you

Opinions can be expressed using mental verbs like believe, think, doubt, assume, feel etc.
Examples of Opinions:
- I reckon this must have happened.

B. Create a dialog of expression of giving opinion and respond

Choose one of the topics given below. Write your opinion about it. Follow the opinion giving technique you have learnt in building blocks.
- Do you think education is a right or a privilege? State your opinion and support it with reasons and examples.
- Do you think conversation of wildlife is important? State your opinion and support it with reasons and examples.
- Time is more important than money. State your opinion and support it with reasons and  examples.
- Nowadays, life in some parts of the world is very fast and individualistic. And sometimes it is difficult to find time for family and friends. Do you think it is important to make time for family and friends? State your opinion and support it with reasons and examples.
- Which one do you prefer, Harry Potter series or Twilight series? State your opinion and support it with reasons and examples.
- Do you think gaming affects the life of teenagers? State your opinion and support with reasons and examples.


Using role-play approach reenact the conversation with your classmates.

Create and  perform dialogue which is found in English and Indonesian in your daily activities.
Example : Based on the following situations.You can choose one!
1.      You see your classmate stay in the classroom during the second break, while most of your classmates go to canteen fo lunch. You approach him/her and ask why he/she doesn’t go to the canteen. He/she says taht he/she broke. Then you offer to treat him/her and he/she accepts it. How would the conversation go?
2.    Suppose you accompany your cousin to search for a boarding hose. You find a boarding house near an intersection. It’s very noisy. Your cousin intends to stay there, but you don’t think it’s agood idea. You tell your cousin that he/she should choose a boarding house in a quieter area. How would the dialog go?
