Social Function
Suggest means to present a suggestion that is to introduce or propose an idea or a
plan for consideration. Suggest means to propose a plan. It can be accepted or
refused. Suggestions are abstract and can be in form of solutions,
advice, plan, and idea.
For example:
-Let's finish our homework first.
-Let's go home.
Expression of

Offer means to give something physical or abstract to someone, which can be taken
as a gift or a trade. Offer means to give help. It can be taken or
refused. Offering can be in terms of f oo d , m o n e y, s o l u t i o n
s , friendship or a bargain.

PROCEDURAL KNOWLEDGE
Your teacher will ask you to sit with your partner and do the following
steps: (Use thinking technique, ”THINK PAIR SHARE” to offer and suggest
a solution to the problem given below).
1. Write a topic about situation around you. It
can be happen at school or home. For example : You came
to know that your friends had a fight. They are not on talking terms for some
time now. Since you are a common friend it is difficult for you because you
want to hang out with both of them but
they can't stand each other. You have to find a way to offer and suggest a
solution so that the fight is over.
When your
teacher give a signal to stop, stop writing and give to your friend. Your
friend will continue write the paper, a sentence at atime. Continue this until
the dialog is completed.
When
writing this dialog , pay attention to the following guidance:

What is the suitable expression of suggestion and
offer used in the dialog and why do you use them?

What is overall impression about the dialog?

and perform dialogue which is found in English and Indonesian in your
daily activities.
Example : Based on the following
situations.You can choose one!
1.
You see
your classmate stay in the classroom during the second break, while most of
your classmates go to canteen fo lunch. You approach him/her and ask why he/she
doesn’t go to the canteen. He/she says taht he/she broke. Then you offer to
treat him/her and he/she accepts it. How would the conversation go?
2.
Suppose
you accompany your cousin to search for a boarding hose. You find a boarding
house near an intersection. It’s very noisy. Your cousin intends to stay there,
but you don’t think it’s agood idea. You tell your cousin that he/she should
choose a boarding house in a quieter area. How would the dialog go?
